Trauma

Trauma is described as an experience(s) that is very stressful, frightening or distressing and they are difficult to cope with and out of our control. These events can be a one time or ongoing. Most individuals will experience a traumatic experience at least once in their lives. If your symptoms are not improving and getting worse and they interfering with daily activities, then it is time to ask for professional help.

Anxiety

Anxiety causes significant discomfort by making you feel worried or nervousness about many issues. Anxiety last all day and it is difficult to experience any relief. When worry or nervousness impacts school, work and your daily activities, you may need to seek professional help. The discomfort can prevent you from engaging in daily life activities and enjoying what life has to offer.

Substance Use

Substance use or misuse such as alcohol can be used as an escape from life and work challenges. When someone is unable to perform at work, or they miss out on special activities in their personal lives, assessing whether or not drinking is problematic should be considered. Substance use treatment includes models such as harm reduction or abstinence.

Grief and Loss

Grief and loss is described as a yearning for someone or something that is no longer with us. The grieving process is normal. When grief becomes too much and it impacts our daily lives, it can present as depression and/or anxiety symptoms. Feelings of loss, emptiness, crying spells, fatigue and hopelessness are a few symptoms that can linger when experiencing any type of loss (expected or unexpected). Mental health therapy can help you accept and move through the grieving process.

Depression

Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness or feeling down. Some of the most common depression symptoms include, but not limited to, feelings of worthlessness, hopelessness, loneliness, and suicidal thoughts. Depression impacts your daily activities, such as school attendance or grades, completing job tasks, relationships and a lack of interest in things you like to do. If this speaks to you, you may be experiencing depression that requires professional mental health counseling.
